Exterior The GTI has a tradition of generating intense power – and displaying it for all to see. Its expressive exterior is just as much a part of the legend as its stunning performance.
Naturally, the design of the new Golf GTI is inspired by the world of motorsports. The front, with its even slimmer headlights, the typical honeycomb structure of the radiator grille and the gleaming black air intake vents identify it as a worthy successor to the original GTI. The classic red trim strip extends from the radiator grille, with its GTI lettering, to above the compact headlights, emphasizing the dynamic overall impression. This impression is further strengthened by the powerful-looking bumpers - a feature unique to the GTI.
The sporty side profile is achieved through the broader side sills, which make the already lower Golf GTI appear to sit even closer to the tarmac, as well as through the GTI lettering and logo on the two front wings. The rear also draws the eye, with its grained matte black diffuser and chrome exhaust pipes on the right and left, as well as the rear spoiler in the same colour as the body.
Interior Sporty, legendary and committed to tradition: the interior of the Golf GTI features high-quality, striking, typical GTI fittings, from the dash panel and chequered sports seats to the stainless steel pedal caps.
Pole position when it comes to atmosphere: even as you open the driver's door, you will be wowed by the sill panel trim, illuminated in red. As soon as you sit into the height-adjustable sports seats, you will feel pure performance at your fingertips in the form of the flat-bottomed multifunction sports steering wheel in leather with the GTI inlay.
As you drive, you will be able to see exactly how your vehicle is performing on the animated, colour instrument cluster screen, or enjoy looking at the dash panel with its GTI-specific instruments and the centre console, with its sporty inlays. The sporty feeling is completed by the brushed stainless steel pedal caps, which stand out with precise pressure points - only found elsewhere in racing cars.
Lights The LED headlights with their distinctive lines of the daytime running lights and the typical red GTI trim emphasises a sporty appearance. Equally impressive: the sweeping indicators in the LED rear lights.
The LED headlights make the most of the design of the new Golf GTI. They are energy-efficient and their light spectrum is easier on your eyes. The headlight washer system (with washer fluid level warning lamp) also helps ensure you can see clearly. The highlights of the light design also include the dark red LED rear light cluster with sweeping indicators: an animated strip of light that moves in the direction in which you are going to turn.
Wheels Nothing shapes the side design of a sports car more than the wheels. The dynamic alloy wheels impressively underline the sporty nature of the Golf GTI and also allow for an unobstructed view of the striking red brake callipers.
18" alloy wheels
A statement and eye-catcher all in one: as soon you turn the corner with your Milton Keynes alloy wheels, all eyes will be on you. The distinctive black, diamond-turned 18-inch alloy wheels with their sporty 225/40 R18 wide-section tyres underline the dynamic GTI feel and express a strong personality. They confidently give the Golf GTI an unmistakeable side profile together with the characteristic red brake callipers with GTI lettering.
Infotainment Whether you need to make a call while driving, require current traffic information, want to reach your destination using the navigation system or simply want to listen to your own music – your Golf GTI offers various possibilities for using modern technology easily and in an uncomplicated way.
Discover Pro with gesture control
The Discover Pro navigation system offers innovative gesture control. This allows you to change from one radio station to another or change the system settings in your car, such as the intensity of the interior lighting, with a single hand movement. It also has a 9.2-inch screen that is capable of displaying a clear 3D map. It also features eight speakers, FM radio, a CD drive that can also play music in MP3, AAC and WMA format, two SD card slots, AUX-IN and USB ports and a Bluetooth connection for mobile phones.
The App-Connect function makes it possible for you to easily connect your smartphone to the car's infotainment system - this helps to reduce distraction to the driver while still allowing them to be connected on the go. Approved apps can be operated on your mobile telephone via the touch screen.
Enjoy every nuance of your music with the purest bass and crystal-clear treble, thanks to the Dynaudio Excite sound system from Danish hi-fi specialists Dynaudio. Eight speakers specially designed for the interior of your car, a subwoofer and a digital 10-channel amplifier with 400 watts of output play the ideal soundtrack for every journey. Digital Signal Processing (DSP) adjusts the sound emissions from every speaker according to its position in the car, so that you hear the sound as if you were in the ideal listening position every time.
Technology The Golf GTI offers pure driving pleasure, thanks to its power and sportiness. The firm sports suspension allows for more comfort, optimal traction and better steering control.
Turbocharged TSI engine
Simply turn the ignition key and you'll get goose bumps: the 230 PS two-litre turbo direct petrol injection engine (TSI) will push your Golf GTI to an incredible maximum speed of 248 km/h. Accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds at lightning speed and be reminded that driving a car is so much more than just getting from A to B.
Electronic differential lock (XDS)
Who would have thought that the letters 'XDS' could bring such a broad smile to your face? That's exactly what happens with the Golf GTI. XDS provides more dynamics, more traction and, above all, confidence in curves. For example, the one-sided, accurate brake pressure build makes the handling in curves even more sporty, faster and more precise. Advanced progressive steering, which offers a high degree of control and comfort, offers additional support on winding roads. This feature increases driving dynamics through more direct steering. It is also beneficial in everyday use, since it reduces steering effort - for example, when parking.
Dynamic Chassis Control
A sporty car calls for a sporty suspension system. The Golf GTI is fitted with Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) as standard. The system constantly varies the damping force according to the road and driving conditions, allowing you to enjoy particularly direct handling. Through the touchscreen, you can choose from five different driving profiles to suit your preferences.
Driver Assistance The intelligent driver assistance systems in your Golf GTI ensure more driving comfort and can help you deal with critical situations very well or even avoid them. Even if you only notice this technology on rare occasions, it feels good to know that it is there.
The semi-automated parking assistance system manoeuvring into or out of tight parking spaces is featured on the Golf GTI. Manoeuvring with pinpoint accuracy into perpendicular and parallel parking spaces - and back out again - is made a lot easier. The driver simply needs to operate the accelerator and brake and keep an eye on the surroundings; the system takes care of steering, within its limits. At any point in time, the driver can interrupt the parking manoeuvre and regain control of the steering wheel.
Blind Spot Sensor with Rear Traffic Alert
Newly available on the Golf GTI is the Blind Spot Sensor with Rear Traffic Alert system. This system is active at speeds above 30 km/h and monitors traffic behind for a range of 20 metres via radar sensors. If, during the intended lane change, the radar detects a vehicle in the area not visible to the driver or that is approaching fast from behind, the system alerts the driver with a visual signal in the exterior mirror. Rear Traffic Alert comes to the driver's aid when reversing out of a parking space with restricted visibility - it detects approaching vehicles within a certain area and sounds an audible warning. If need be, the system can even brake the vehicle within its own limits to ideally prevent a collision or at least reduce the severity of the impact.
Active Info Display
The Golf is the first hatchback in the Volkswagen line-up to offer the Active Info Display (AID). This is a fully digitalised instrument cluster with numerous interactive functions. All of the instruments are displayed via software on the 12.3-inch colour screen, and navigation data can be displayed in 2D or 3D. The 1,440 x 540 pixel resolution also enables extremely precise and sophisticated representation of all details.
