High environmental protection at a low cost

AdBlue® is an odourless urea solution, whose task is to reduce harmful nitrogen oxides in exhaust gases of diesel vehicles. A complex reaction, which proceeds completely unnoticed by you as a driver. All you have to do is simply top up AdBlue® after several thousand kilometres.

AdBlue® overview

Economical

A car requires 1.5 - 2.8 litres of AdBlue® every 1,000 km. A typical Volkswagen tank has a capacity of 11 litres to 19 litres.

Easy to top up

Ask your service centres, use practical top-up containers or go to special dispensers at filling stations.

Controllable consumption

AdBlue® consumption mainly depends on your driving style. If you have a particularly sporty driving style, you will need to top up more often.

Prepared for any temperature

Immediately you start off, an automatic heating system ensures that AdBlue® has the correct operating temperature - even at below 11 °C. Important: Do not add any antifreeze to the AdBlue® tank.

Environmental protection in the tank

Volkswagen models with AdBlue®.

How do you recognise AdBlue® models apart from their lower emissions of nitrogen oxide? By a separate AdBlue® filler neck - in addition to the diesel filler neck, in the boot or engine compartment*. Why? AdBlue® is an operating fluid, not a fuel additive and must be added separately.

Tips on all aspects of filling up

Nothing works without AdBlue®

If the tank is empty, you can no longer start your car - only, of course, until you top up AdBlue®.

AdBlue® in the diesel tank?

Do not start the engine under any circumstances and contact your Volkswagen Partner.

Keep it clean

Avoid contamination of AdBlue®. Do not add any other fluids, such as antifreeze, to the AdBlue® tank.

Rely on the Original

Use only original AdBlue® in line with standards DIN 70070 and ISO 22241/1. Look out for the AdBlue® logo on the sealed container.

Spilt something while filling up?

Did you spill something while filling up? Use a moist cloth and plenty of cold water to remove any spilt AdBlue® as quickly as possible and use hot water and a sponge to get rid of crystallised AdBlue®.

Topping up AdBlue®

On average, your Volkswagen consumes 1.5 to 2.8 litres of AdBlue® every 1,000 km, depending on your driving style and model. A warning message will tell you when to top up - 2,400 and 1,000 km beforehand.
