Safety first

Get a better fit with ISOFIX.

ISOFIX is the international standard for child safety seat attachment points. ISOFIX-compatible child seats provide optimum safety by being securely attached with two rigid support arms. The standardised fittings also make them easy to install. ISOFIX is used by top child seat manufacturers, and all new Volkswagens have ISOFIX fastening points. The Sharan even features ISOFIX points on both the second and third row seats, so you can attach up to 5 child seats.

Protect their little fingers.

Children often reach out to explore the world with their hands. The last thing you want is for their fingers to get caught in a window. That's why Volkswagen provides smart pinch-protection technology that automatically stops electric windows and sunroofs when it detects fingers or other obstructions in the way. Pinch-protection is also provided for the electric sliding doors on the Sharan.

Childproof your car doors.

By mimicking your actions, a child could possibly learn to unlock and even open your car doors. To prevent your children from accidentally opening doors from the inside, Volkswagen provides child locks on the rear doors of all its passenger cars. For your convenience, the Sharan's child lock function can also be activated from a switch on the front panel.

Easy front airbag deactivation.

While front airbags help prevent injuries in adults, their deployment onto a rear-facing child seat can potentially cause injuries. It is recommended that you deacivate the front passenger airbag if there is a rear-facing child seat in front. While some manufacturers require you have a technician do this, Volkswagen has an option for you to conveniently do this yourself.

Give your family 5-star protection.

The European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) is a leading international car safety testing and rating system. The following Volkswagen models tested have achieved the highest possible 5-star safety rating: Polo, Beetle, Golf, Golf Cabriolet, Scirocco, Touran, Jetta, Tiguan, Passat, Sharan, and Touareg.

Stay in control with ESP.

You never know when you might have to swerve to avoid an accident. That in turn could lead to skidding and even spin outs. In a split-second emergency, Volkswagen's Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP) will analyse performance from multiple parts of the car and automatically helps you stay in control.

Keep the kids in view, even behind you.

Small children playing behind the car are often hidden from the driver's view, especially for larger vehicles such as MPVs. Volkswagen's Rear Assist system helps prevent accidents by easily letting you see what's behind you.
