Technology From the racetrack directly to the road: thanks to the permanent 4MOTION four-wheel drive and powerful TSI engine with turbocharger technology and direct injection, you can enjoy an extraordinary driving experience.
With the Golf R, you're in pole position on the road. The 290 PS powertrain sits under the cover with an R badge, waiting to unleash its power. This means that the Golf R is not only the most powerful Golf there's ever been, but also the fastest. Thanks to its starting performance and DSG dual clutch transmission, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds. The combination of direct injection and intelligent turbocharging as well as high torque guarantee an exceptional driving experience every time you take to the road.
The permanent 4MOTION four-wheel drive distributes the TSI engine's power to all four wheels as required. This prevents wheelspin and locking, and helps your Golf R gain traction on virtually any surface. In combination with the 7-speed DSG dual clutch transmission, the Golf R accelerates efficiently without traction loss.
Dynamic Chassis Control
Do you like your cars to be sporty? Then bring motorsports to the road with driving profile selection as well as race mode, which has been developed specifically for the Golf R. Adapt the vehicle to your needs at just the press of a button or using the touchscreen on your infotainment system. You'll be impressed by the result: more taut running gear, prompt gas pedal response and faster gear changes ensure an authentic racing experience.
The Sport Human Machine Interface (HMI) gives you deep insight into the technology so that you can get the best from your Golf R. Directly on the screen of your infotainment system, it shows you current engine values such as the charge pressure and G-meter as well as the power currently being used. On the track, lap timers are used both to measure lap times and to show the current longitudinal and lateral acceleration.
It's like the racetrack was made for your Golf R. If not before, you'll notice this when you experience breathtaking acceleration that will give you goosebumps right from the outset with Launch Control start. In your Golf R, you can turn off ESC Electronic Stability Control. This will give you control of the vehicle in the threshold area.
Blind Spot Sensor with Rear Traffic Alert
Newly available on the Golf R is the Blind Spot Sensor with Rear Traffic Alert system. The system is active at speeds above 30 km/h and monitors traffic behind for a range of 20 metres via radar sensors. If, during the intended lane change, the radar detects a vehicle in the area not visible to the driver or that is approaching fast from behind, the system alerts the driver with a visual signal in the exterior mirror. Rear Traffic Alert comes to the driver's aid when reversing out of a parking space with restricted visibility - it detects approaching vehicles within a certain area and sounds an audible warning. If need be, the system can even brake the vehicle within its own limits to ideally prevent a collision or at least reduce the severity of the impact.
Active Info Display
Thanks to the Active Info Display in the R look, you can enjoy the advantages of an instrument cluster with a high-resolution 12.3-inch colour display. The R-logo in the status line emphasises the sporty design. With various information profiles, you can decide which specific data are displayed in the instrument cluster in addition to the usual gauges such as the rev counter, speedometer and odometer.
Equipment & design The premium equipment in a motorsports look and the clean design language with R-specific features set your Golf R apart. The wide range of details available also means you can choose between different equipment features.
