Volkswagen Singapore introduces the new Golf GTI, offering more thrills than ever before
Singapore, 27 January 2025 – The Golf GTI has stood out in the world of hot hatches for decades and now, the latest version of a true icon arrives in Singapore. Offering an output of 265 PS, the new GTI is 20 PS more powerful than its predecessor. From the outside, the GTI can be recognised thanks to features such as the new LED headlights and an illuminated Volkswagen logo at the front, and the new 19-inch Queenstown alloy wheels. Inside, the everyday athlete is equally impressive: its revamped infotainment systems are intuitively controlled by means of a visually free-standing touchscreen or by the IDA voice assistant.
The heart of the new Golf GTI
The latest evolutionary stage of the GTI’s 2.0l turbocharged engine delivers a maximum torque of 370 Nm to the front axle – which is combined with an electronic differential lock – starting from a very low engine speed of 1,600 rpm. This power is now available up to 4,500 rpm and thus in an even wider engine power band. The GTI engine generates its maximum output of 195 kW / 265 PS within the engine speed range of 5,250 to 6,500 rpm.The fast-shifting seven-speed DSG ensures that the Golf GTI’s power is transferred to the drive axle with virtually no interruptions to traction during gear changes. The gearbox can also be shifted manually using paddles on the multi-function steering wheel. The GTI reaches 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds - under six seconds for the first time – with an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.The Golf GTI’s handling characteristics are one of its many hallmarks, with the latest iteration living up to expectations with a precisely-tuned sports suspension set up and Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC).
An aggressive exterior to match
The new Golf GTI has the looks to go with its performance credentials. The front end has been redesigned and now sports the latest generation of the IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights – these offer a stronger high beam with 15 per cent more range than the predecessor. As standard, the Golf GTI bears the new 19-inch Queenstown alloy wheels. Its striking design evokes the classic Detroit wheel, which was introduced for the fifth-generation Golf GTI. Other exterior modifications include the redesigned LED taillight clusters. Even without the GTI logo on the boot lid, the Golf GTI would be easily recognisable thanks to its twinpipe exhaust system, with a chrome-plated tailpipe on both sides of the vehicle. The GTI style body-coloured bumpers and honeycomb air intake round off the exterior.
Sporty – Inside Out
Inside, the Golf GTI is characterised by premium front sports seats, delivering ultimate comfort with adjustable lumbar support and headrests. Luxurious “Vienna” leather inserts in the front and outer rear seats complete the interior in style. Red decorative stitching on the seats, centre armrest, floor mats and multi-function steering wheel emphasise the fact that this interior belongs to a Golf GTI.
An exclusive GTI feature is the Engine Start/Stop button: after the doors are opened, this pulses red until the turbocharged engine comes to life. Also fitted as standard are pedal caps in brushed stainless steel, a black headliner and the enhanced Digital Cockpit Pro. The new infotainment system can be operated intuitively using a free-standing 12.9 inch touchscreen display.
Equipped as standard are the Harman Kardon sound system with 8+1 speakers and subwoofer, as well as Wireless App-Connect for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. While being a true athlete on the road, safety is never compromised in the Golf GTI with features such as the Proactive passenger protection system, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and electromechanical brake booster.
